Association of Democratic Pharmacists
The Association of Democratic Pharmacists (VDPP) eV is a German non-governmental organization that advocates patient-oriented drug supply and was founded as an alternative association of pharmacists to professional organizations and interest groups.
history
The Association of Democratic Pharmacists was founded on June 17, 1989 in Hamburg. Licenses , pharmacy employees and students have met regularly since the student movement to exchange views on the situation of pharmacy employees and to counter the profit-oriented thinking and actions of pharmacy owners with social action for the benefit of the patient.
Main goals and activities
The VDPP is a politically active association. According to the association's program, the main goals are:
- Patient-oriented drug supply
- Socially relevant drug research
- Access for all people worldwide to health-related services
- More democracy and transparency in professional organizations
- Interdisciplinary cooperation between all stakeholders in the healthcare sector
The VDPP regularly publishes statements on drug and pharmacy-related developments, most recently on the drug market reorganization law and on Thilo Sarrazin's invitation as a keynote speaker at Pharmacon. Over the years, the VDPP has repeatedly commented on current legislative proposals at hearings before the health committee of the German Bundestag. The VDPP organizes public autumn seminars in which, among other things, the future of the public pharmacy , the potential of the pharmacy in prevention and health promotion, and the improvement of the quality of advice in pharmacies.
The VDPP works with other political and consumer organizations, such as its partner organization, the Association of Democratic Doctors , as well as IPPNW , MEZIS and Health Action International.

Pharmacists , pharmaceutical engineers , PTAs and PKAs from Germany are organized in the VDPP . The members work in public pharmacies as well as in health insurance companies , authorities, hospital pharmacies , industry, universities, humanitarian organizations and training institutions. The office is located in the Neptun pharmacy in Hamburg. There are two regional groups in Berlin and Hamburg which discuss developments and prepare draft statements. The VDPP Rundbrief appears roughly every quarter.
