The Association for History and Regional Studies of Osnabrück is an association for research into regional history based in Osnabrück .

It was founded in 1847 by Johann Carl Bertram Stüve and is one of the oldest historical societies in Westphalia and Lower Saxony . Since its inception, the association, whose sphere of activity still includes the former administrative district of Osnabrück, has pursued the goal of promoting scientific research into the past of the Osnabrück region, the Emsland and the county of Bentheim , collecting the results and making them accessible to a broad public.

Today the historical association has around 600 people who are interested in the development of their region, follow the association's publications, attend lectures , take part in excursions and make use of the association's extensive library.

  • Local history of the Osnabrück region in individual examples

Events

In the winter half-year, the association organizes lectures on general and regional history and cultural studies . During the summer there are excursions which non-members can also take part.

Library

The library of the historical association currently comprises over 25,000 volumes. In exchange, the association receives around 130 national and international magazine series.
