The United Southwest University ( Chinese 國立 西南 聯合 大學 , Pinyin Guólì Xīnán Liánhé Dàxué , short: Chinese 西南 聯大 , Pinyin Xīnán Liándà ) was a merger of Peking University , Tsinghua University and Nankai University .
history
The United Southwest University was founded (under a different name) in Changsha during the anti-Japanese war and then fled to Kunming in Yunnan . After the war, the universities resumed their activities in the old places.
The former site of the United Southwest University in Kunming , Yunnan , has been on the List of Monuments of the People's Republic of China (6-1062) since 2006 . It is located on the Yunnan Pedagogical University (Yunnan shifan daxue) campus .
Graduates
Nobel Prize winners Chen Ning Yang and Tsung-Dao Lee studied at the university .
Professors
Shiing-Shen Chern , Chen Yinke , Jin Yuelin , Hua Luogeng , Zhao Jiuzhang and Feng Youlan taught at the United Southwest University .
