The South African winery Vergere ( Dutch ; German "Abzut") is located about four kilometers northeast of Somerset West and about 50 km east of Cape Town .

The winery was founded by Willem Adriaan van der Stel , who succeeded his father as governor in 1699. It was visited by the British Queen Elizabeth II in the mid-1990s .

The estate's mansion was inaugurated in 1701 and is one of the oldest mansions at the foot of the Hottentots Holland Mountains and on the Lourens River . The manor house is typical of the Cape Dutch style : the roof is thatched, the rooms are generously furnished with teak and yellow wood.

The winery has camphor trees that are well over 300 years old and have been declared a national monument. The Lady Phillips Tea Garden restaurant as well as the rose and herb garden also belong to the winery.

In addition to wine tastings, tours of the winery and cellar rooms can be carried out on request. The wines of the Versitz winery have already won many international awards. The grape varieties include

The name wine produced by the winery Vergere is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot of the Bordeaux type. It is consistently one of the five best wines in Africa.

In early 2017, a bush fire destroyed around 40% of the site.
