Verjnuarmu was a Finnish melodic death metal band from Kuopio that was founded in 2001 and split up in 2018.

history

The band was formed in 2001 by Musta Savo and Savon Surma. Initially only as a studio project, the duo recorded the two demos Verjnuarmu (2001) and Verta, voemoo ja viitakkeita (2002), before the line-up was completed in 2003 by guitarist Viitakemies, bassist Woema and singer Puijon Perkele. In the same year the demo Laalavat Jouset was recorded in this line -up, whereby the group achieved a record deal with Universal Music Finland in 2005 . The single Kurjuuvven valssi was released in autumn of that year . In January 2006, the debut album Muanpiällinen Helevetti was released. The album was recorded and mixed in Studio 33 , about ten kilometers from Kuopio. In the same year, the music video for the song Laalavat Jouset and the single Itkuvirsj appeared . In 2006 the band was also active live and could be seen at the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival , the Sauna Open Air and the Nummirock . In the following year, the group also took part in festivals such as Raumanmeren Juhannus . After the band switched to Dynamic Arts Records in 2008, the second album Ruatokansan Uamunkoetto was released that same year . In 2010 the album Lohuton followed via Osasto-A Records, which was followed by self- publication in 1808 in 2015. In August 2018 the band announced their breakup after founding member Musta Savo died after a serious illness.

style

According to metalfromfinland.com , the band plays Melodic Death Metal, which the band calls "Savo Metal" because they use an East Finnish Savo dialect in their lyrics . In an interview with Velvet from metal-district.de , Puijon Perkele and Viitakemies stated that the members play characters for whom background stories have also been created. The group was influenced by bands like WASP , Twisted Sister and Kiss . In her review of Ruatokansan Uamunkoetto , Velvet wrote that influences from Children of Bodom can be heard. In addition, the group also process bonds from progressive black metal and Finnish folk . There are also similarities to Finntroll and Thyrfing . In a broader sense, the music can be classified as Melodic Death Metal, although it is harder than that of the usual genre representatives. The singing is both clear and guttural . Markus from Metal.de also reviewed the album and found that it contained Melodic Death Metal of the 1990s in Swedish style minus the keyboards. In addition, influences from Black Metal are incorporated. Except for the use of the Savo dialect, the use of folk elements is limited and only comes to the fore in the clear vocal passages. Occasionally there are also similarities to old Bathory as well as Tenhi and Týr .
