Traffic work

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In traffic science, traffic work is the product of the amount of traffic and the distance covered by this amount when changing location .

units

A traffic element kilometer is generally taken as the unit of traffic work . Is often used in passenger or freight especially the passenger kilometers or ton-kilometer or in a combined approach of the traffic unit kilometers used as a unit.

Derived quantities

Transport work without a time reference is usually not used. If one includes the transport work in a period of time is obtained, in analogy to the working and performance concept of physics, the traffic performance .

The utilization of means of transport is also calculated using the transport work. For this purpose, the transport work performed is divided by the transport or transportation capacity offered . For example, in air traffic, the seat occupancy , in which the passenger kilometers are divided by the seat kilometers offered .
