Verner Eklöf

Verner Edmund Eklöf (born March 8, 1897 in Helsinki ; † December 2, 1955 ibid) was a Finnish football and bandy player as well as Nordic combined .

Life

Eklöf was a member of Helsingfors IFK from 1913 to 1920 , then HJK Helsinki until his retirement in 1927 , with whom he won the Finnish football championship in 1923 and 1925.

For the Finnish national football team , Eklöf completed 32 games between 1919 and 1927 and scored 17 goals. He was Finland's record scorer until 1995. From 1923 to 1926 he was captain of the national team.

In the bandy Eklöf reached with Helsingfors IFK in 1916 and 1920 the finals for the Finnish championship, in 1916 also the final in the HIFK with 3: 8 to the club Viipurin Bandy & Jalkapalloseura . With HJK Helsinki he won the Finnish championship in 1921, 1923 and 1924. In the winter of 1921/22 he coached the SK Tallinna Sport bandy team . Eklöf also played three times for the Finnish national bandy team .

In addition to soccer, Eklöf also played winter sports. At the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix , he was ninth in the Nordic Combined.
