Contract on the use of submarines and harmful gases in warfare
The treaty on the use of submarines and harmful gases in warfare of February 6, 1921 was an agreement under international law. Among other things, it should stipulate the ban on chemical weapons , the protection of seafarers and passengers on merchant ships and the ban on attacks by submarines on merchant ships.
The treaty was signed by ten nations:
- For the United States of America : Charles Evans Hughes , Henry Cabot Lodge , Oscar W. Underwood .
- For the United Kingdom : Arthur James Balfour , Arthur Lee, 1st Viscount Lee of Fareham , Auckland Campbell Geddes .
- For Canada : Robert Borden .
- For Australia : George Pearce .
- For New Zealand : John William Salmond .
- For South Africa : Arthur James Balfour .
- For India : VS Srinivasa Sastri .
- For France : Albert Sarraut , Jean Jules Jusserand .
- For Italy : Carlo Schanzer , Vittorio Rolandi Ricci , Luigi Albertini .
- For Japan : Tomosaburo Kato , Kijuro Shidehara , Manasao Hanihara .
However, the treaty did not enter into force as it was not ratified by France.
