The administrative community was founded on May 27, 1992. The dissolution took place on July 31, 1996. With effect from August 1, 1996, the new community Menteroda was formed from the member communities Kleinkeula, Menteroda, Sollstedt and Urbach. The municipality of Obermehler did not join the merger, making the city of Schlotheim the fulfilling municipality for them.
