The Vesleskarvet ( Norwegian for small barren mountain ) is a cliff in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . On the west side of the Ahlmannryggen it rises north of the Lorentzenpiggen . It is the location of the South African research station SANAE IV .
Norwegian cartographers gave the cliff its name and mapped it on the basis of surveys and aerial photographs of the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952) and aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960) taken between 1958 and 1959 .
