The Vespa Club of Germany e. V. (VCVD) is the umbrella organization of associations in which drivers of scooters of the mark Vespa have come together.

history

Hoffmann-Werke 2012 Ratingen-Lintorf

In 1952, representatives of regional Vespa clubs founded the Vespa Club of Germany. The initiative came from, among others, the entrepreneur Jakob Oswald Hoffmann , whose Hoffmann-Werke Lintorf received a license from the Vespa manufacturer Piaggio in 1950 to manufacture Vespa scooters in Germany under its own name. Ernst-August Prinz zur Lippe became the first president. The delegates elected racing driver Fritz Huschke von Hanstein as the sports commissioner and thus vice president . Hans Stuck , also a racing driver, was club president from 1958 to 1975. There were strict dress codes at the Vespa meetings. Without a suit and tie or evening dress, the guests were not admitted to the evening event, the “Vespa Ball”.

Sports

While the respective regional offshoots initially hosted individual racing events, the VCVD has been organizing long-distance races with European participation at the AVUS in Berlin since the early 1960s . Since the 1990s, the association has been organizing the German Vespa Sports Championship with speed races, enduro rallies and long-distance rides, which can also lead to races in neighboring countries in Germany over the course of the year. A VCVD team takes part in long- distance races such as the 24-hour race in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben . The Berlin branch of the club is organizing the ADAC Bördesprint-Cup on the same site. The tournament championship focuses on skill, while the trial championship focuses on off-road competitions.

Association

As an umbrella organization, the association represents around 152 local clubs (as of November 2015) with around 4,400 drivers. The annual general meeting takes place every two years as a meeting of delegates; President since 2011 is Uwe Bödicker,

his representative has been Tanja Schlemme since November 2015. Vespina has been the club's official magazine since 2009 . In 2010 the VCVD became a corporate member of the ADAC .

Historical register

In 1998 the Historical Vespa Register of the Vespa Club von Deutschland eV was founded. It records two-, three- and four-wheel Vespa vehicles that are at least 30 years old, that are still in their original condition or that have been restored as faithfully as possible through a restoration. A comprehensive overview of the type and condition of historic vehicles in Germany is to be created, support for the fitting out of old models is to be provided and the exchange of owners to be promoted. Technical documentation is available for almost every model. The register is modeled on the Registro Storico Vespa of the Vespa Club d'Italia and is administered by the largest local club, the Vespa Veterans Club Germany .
