Veturliði Óskarsson

Veturliði Óskarsson (born March 25, 1958 in Borgarnes , Iceland ) is an Icelandic philologist.

Life

In 1979 he graduated from the Menntaskólinn in Reykjavík . He then went to the Háskóli Íslands and studied Icelandic language as well as Icelandic literature and general linguistics until 1985 . From 1987 to 1992 he studied Nordic Philology at the University of Copenhagen , where he worked as an assistant at the Ordbog over det norrøne prosasprog between 1987 and 1990 , and completed his studies with a thesis on loanwords in Icelandic documents of the 15th century with a master's degree from. In 1991/1992 and 1993/1994 he worked as a lecturer at the Háskóli Íslands and as an employee at the Icelandic Institute for Language Maintenance. In 1992/1993 he worked for the TV station Íslenska útvarpsfélagið as a language advisor in the sense of Icelandic language purism . In 1995/1996 he took over the station's translation department. From 1997 to 2002 he worked as a lecturer at Uppsala University . In 2001 he did his doctorate in Uppsala as fil. Dr. with the dissertation Middelnedertyske låneord i islandsk diplomsprog Fremd til år 1500 ( Middle Low German loanwords in the Icelandic document language around the year 1500 ).
