The forerunner of VfB was founded on October 1st, 1907 as FC Wacker Glauchau. FC Wacker won their first game 4-1 against Wehrdigt FC Olympia. A year later, VfB merged with the defender FC Olympia to form FC 1907 Glauchau . The club colors were then blue and white. After another merger with the Glauchauer Sportfreunde , VfB Glauchau was created in May 1915 and adopted the color combination black and white as the club's colors. By winning the Gauliga Westsachsen in 1933, VfB was classified in the Gauliga Sachsen , from which it was relegated in 1935. With the inauguration of the sports park in 1936 as part of a friendly game against 1. FC Nürnberg , which was lost 3: 6, the club found its still existing sporting home. In 1939 VfB rose again to the Gauliga for two years.

After the Second World War , the club was re-established as the Glauchau sports community. After further restructuring, the company sports community (BSG) Chemie Glauchau was established on February 15, 1951 . In the 1952/53 season, the 1st football team became champions of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district league . Then they prevailed in the promotion games against Chemistry Schönebeck and rose to the second-rate GDR league . There Glauchau was able to hold for seven years before the team was relegated to the 2nd GDR League in 1959 with a 13th place . After three seasons, Chemie Glauchau had to go to the district league after the 1962/63 season despite a 3rd place, as the II. GDR league was dissolved. After they mostly occupied front midfield places in the district league Karl-Marx-Stadt in the season 1969/70 the 2nd place was enough to qualify for the promotion round to the GDR league, since the 2nd team of the upper division club FC Karl- Marx-Stadt was not eligible for promotion. Here the Glauchau team prevailed against Chemie Ilmenau , Stahl Maxhütte and Motor Sömmerda and rose to the GDR league together with Dynamo Dresden II . However, this division turned out to be too high and the team rose to 16th place after just one year back in the district league. After Glauchau mostly played for the championship in the district league in the following years, the chemists had to accept relegation to the fourth-class district class for the first time after a last place in the 1982/1983 season. Until the end of the GDR football business, they mostly occupied the top positions there.

After the turnaround and the economic situation that followed, the BSG had to transform itself into a civil association and initially called itself VfB Chemie Glauchau. A little later the old name VfB Glauchau was adopted again. In the first year after the fall of the Wall, he was promoted to the Chemnitz District League in the 1990/91 season. They played very successfully there and after a 6th place in the first year won the district championship in the 1992/93 season and rose to the then fourth-class Landesliga Sachsen. In this division, VfB was able to hold its own for three years with places 6, 9 and 5. After the 1995/1996 season, however, the club had to withdraw from the state league for financial reasons and was downgraded to the 1st district league Glauchau. Meanwhile, the club commutes between the district class and the district league. In 2010, VfB merged with SV Empor to form VfB Empor Glauchau. The club has played in the Sachsenliga (6th division) since 2014/15.

The venue of VfB Glauchau is the sports park on Meeraner Strasse in Glauchau. There are three different football fields available for the players in the stadium, the grass field, an ash field for training the children's and youth teams and an artificial turf field. The compulsory and friendly matches of the football teams of VfB Glauchau are held on the artificial turf pitch and in the stadium.
