history

VfL Lüneburg was founded on May 15, 1894 as the ATL Workers' Gymnastics Association Lüneburg. This is the oldest tribe of today's VfL. Gymnastics took place in inns and sheds. Later activities in gymnastics, handball, fistball , game players and at times also football and heavy athletics brought a variety of club life. After the Second World War , the ATL formed again and merged with VfL Grün-Weiß on January 1, 1960 to form VfL Lüneburg. From June 1, 1976, the Association for Ball Games (VfB) Lüneburg was added.

VfL Lüneburg made an important national appearance through its participation in the 2nd Badminton Bundesliga 2004/05 .

The Salzstadtkeiler Lüneburg , the inline skater hockey team in VfL Lüneburg, was able to record the German runner-up in the DRIV in 2003 as their greatest success. At the same time, the team played in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga of ISHD from 2004 to 2016 .
