The 1st Rödelheimer Fußballclub 02 is a German sports club from what is now the Rödelheim district in Frankfurt am Main . The “Blau-Gelben” soccer team played in the Gauliga Hessen-Nassau in the 1943/44 season , and in the post-war period, when they were promoted to the southern soccer league in 1948, they made another leap into the first class for a year. At the supraregional level, however, the club could not last long, today the team plays in the leagues of the Frankfurt soccer district.
history
founding
The club from what was then the western suburb on the Nidda was founded on April 12, 1902 under its current name. After the merger with FV Wacker 1910 Frankfurt , which was the football department of TG Rödelheim until 1923, the club was called 1. Rödelheimer FC Wacker 02 . Six years later, it was renamed VfL Rödelheim as a result of the complete merger with TG.
Gauliga
Under this name, the Rödelheimers succeeded in being promoted to the top division of the time, the Gauliga Hessen-Nassau . In the promotion round, VfL u. a. against Mainz 05 . Among the ten clubs in the league, Rödelheim finished the 1943/44 season in seventh place, u. a. before the Reichsbahn-TSV Rot-Weiß Frankfurt . In addition to the highest victory in the Gauliga with 6-0 over Opel Rüsselsheim, one of the highlights was certainly the 4-1 home win over runner-up Hanau 93 . The 2: 9 at home against Eintracht Frankfurt means the biggest defeat in the Gauliga. For the 1944/45 season, the Gauliga was dissolved in Hessen-Nassau and played in the form of a cup round of all probably 50 remaining clubs. Therefore, the Gauliga issue was closed for VfL without relegation, nothing is known about the performance of KSG Rödelheim / Rot-Weiß Frankfurt , which was founded with Rot-Weiß Frankfurt .
After the Second World War
After the end of the Second World War , the Rödelheimers briefly traded as Kultur- und SG Rödelheim , before the club again took on the old name that still exists today in 1946. Initially classified in the second-class Landesliga Hessen-West, 1. FC twice missed promotion to the newly formed top division, the Oberliga Süd . In 1946 Rödelheim was second in the Landesliga Hessen-West in the promotion games. First, the FC prevailed 3-1 in a playoff against champions SV Wiesbaden . This game was scheduled because of various protests. Due to numerous protests, it took a total of two months to decide on the ascent. In terms of sport, the three promotion games against the champions of the Hessen-Ost season, Viktoria from Aschaffenburg , ended with defeats for Rödelheim. A year later Rödelheim prevailed in the Landesliga Hessen-West, this time first in the table. In the promotion round of the Hessian clubs 1. FC came third behind promoted Rot-Weiss Frankfurt and VfL Hessen Kassel .
Oberliga
The rise finally succeeded in 1948. In the now single-track Landesliga Hessen Rödelheim was champion before Hessen Kassel. In the promotion round to Oberliga Süd, 1. FC prevailed as second behind BC Augsburg in front of Sportvg Feuerbach and Amicitia Viernheim . 1. Rödelheimer FC was represented in the Oberliga Süd together with local rivals Eintracht and FSV as the third club from Frankfurt. After only one season, however, the Rödelheimer rose again as the knocked-down bottom of the table. The most notable result was the 4-1 home win over the reigning champions 1. FC Nürnberg , who played poorly overall this season. This success was also the highest league victory for the Rödelheim team. Further victories were achieved at home with VfB Stuttgart , TSV Schwaben Augsburg and BC Augsburg as well as away with 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 and TSG Ulm 1846 . Against the local rivals from Frankfurt there were defeats in all four games, the highest league defeat, however, meant 0:10 in front of the home crowd against the league champions Offenbacher Kickers .
Rapid descents
The descent into the second class was followed by the rapid crash into the fourth class. In 1950 Rödelheimer FC was able to hold up in eleventh place in the Hessian league. They not only missed the qualification for the new second division as a substructure for the Oberliga Süd, but in 1951 even got down from the highest Hessian league.
Apart from a guest appearance in the - at that time fourth class - group league (1972 to 1977), Rödelheimer FC has since played in the lower classes of the Frankfurt soccer district.
