The VfL Solingen-Wald (officially: Verein für Leibesübungen Solingen-Wald 1897 eV ) was a sports club from the Solingen district of Wald . The first soccer team played for two years in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.

history

The club was created in 1933 through the merger of the Wald gymnastics and sports association founded in 1897 with the Walder Ballspielverein founded in 1903 and VfB Wald founded in 1932 . For years the club was officially called VfL Wald 1897 , before it was called VfL Solingen-Wald from 1970 . Until the end of World War II , the woods played on a local level. After the end of the war, VfL 1946 lost the final of the city championship against Ohligser FC 06 3: 6.

Then the woods played in the district class, where VfL 1952 runner-up behind SSV Oberkassel . Two years later, he was promoted to the state league , at the time the highest amateur league on the Lower Rhine. Two years later, VfL missed the qualification for the newly created Association League Niederrhein . A year later it went down to the district class. After a runner-up in the district class season 1960/61 behind Spvg Remscheid 07 , he was promoted to the state league in 1970. After two years it went back down to the district class, where the direct rise again succeeded.

On July 24, 1974, VfL Solingen-Wald merged with OSC Solingen to form SG Union Solingen . A new association called VfL Wald was later founded, which merged with SpVgg Gräfrath on May 12, 2006 to form 1. SpVgg Solingen-Wald .
