The VfL Ulm / Neu-Ulm ( full name : Verein für Leibesübungen Ulm / Neu-Ulm e.V. since 1905) is a sports club from the Böfingen district of Ulm . The club offers a total of nine sports and has over 1,600 members. The women's soccer team , which no longer exists today, played in the Bundesliga from 1990 to 1992 .
history
On April 20, 1905, the "Freie Turnerschaft Ulm / Neu-Ulm" was founded. After the Second World War , other departments were added, such as B. football , swimming and handball . In April 1933 the association was banned and dissolved by the Nazi regime . After the end of the Second World War, the association was re-established in December 1945. However, the name was changed to "Verein für Leibesübungen Ulm". With boxing and table tennis , two more new departments were founded. As more and more members came from Neu-Ulm , the name of the city was added to the club name in 1965.
Soccer
The women's soccer team was one of the founding members of the Bundesliga in 1990. In the first season , the team took eighth place in the southern group. The 6-1 win over SC 07 Bad Neuenahr was the highest Bundesliga win in the club's history. Eighth place could also be confirmed in the 1991/92 season . In 1991/92 the second round of the DFB Cup was the final destination. However, the department was dissolved at the end of the season, with the club restarting girls' football in May 2014.
The men's team played in the district league between 2001 and 2003. Today the team only plays in the regional league B. The venue is the Böfingen sports center, which was opened in 1978 with a friendly against TSV 1860 Munich .
