Emergence
In 1906 a football department was established in MTV Kaiserslautern , which was founded in 1893 , and in 1908 it became an independent club, FC Bayern 1906 Kaiserslautern . On March 30, 1910, the clubs VfB 1906 , FC Barbarossa 08 and FC Viktoria 05 merged to form the Kaiserslautern Football Association 1910 , which was later renamed SpVgg 1910 . Ten years later, in March 1920, FC Bayern 1906 Kaiserslautern and SpVgg 1910 merged to form VfR Kaiserslautern . Today the VfR is one of the smaller sports clubs with around 400 members and has reduced itself to football. In contrast to the trend, however, the club is growing significantly in 2016/2017. Many newcomers in the youth sector contribute to this, as well as the establishment of a young AH team (over 32).
Sporting development
The VfR was to compete in the Gauliga Westmark in the 1944/45 season as part of the Kaiserslautern war game community formed with 1. FC Kaiserslautern . The season was not played, so the war syndicate only played two friendly matches. After the restart of the game operations, the club was not divided into the new Oberliga Saarpfalz and initially played low-class. It was not until 1948/49 that the men's team, which was also trained by Fritz Walter , won the championship of the West Palatinate Amateur League and was promoted to the Oberliga Südwest for the 1949/50 season .
The team, which was also called Willimowski-Elf after the Polish and German national player Ernst Otto Willimowski , who played for VfR from 1951 to 1955 , was an integral part of the league from then on. Only in the seasons 1958/59 and 1960/61 this was not the case, but it succeeded in each case the immediate rise from the 2nd League Southwest . In the first two league years, the club was able to occupy ninth place, after which only double-digit placements were achieved.
In the 1963 introduced Regionalliga Südwest , the VfR reached seventh place in the first year, but rose in the second year as the penultimate. In the following amateur league year the VfR became champions, but failed in the promotion round to the regional league. In 1971 the team was again runner-up in the amateur league behind FC Phoenix Bellheim . After the 1974/75 season, the team rose from the Southwest Amateur League. Since then, VfR has belonged to the lower amateur leagues. In the 2014/15 season, the second team was promoted to the district class as champions. At the same time, the first team made it to the district league by relegation. In the 2017/18 season, he was promoted to the Landesliga West.
Stadion
The stadium of VfR Kaiserslautern is the Waldstadion on the Erbsenberg . Originally it was designed for 15,000 spectators, today it is only approved for 5,000 people. Parts of the wooden grandstand date back to 1925.
