The Via Karelia is a holiday route in Finland . It consists of two separate routes, Runon ja Rajan tie and Karjalan kirkkotie .

Runon yes Rajan tie

The Runon ja Rajan tie route (roughly: “Road of Songs and the Border”) leads through eastern Finland, following the Russian border, from the Gulf of Finland to Lapland . It begins in Vaalimaa in southwest Finland and crosses South Karelia , North Karelia , Kainuu and Kuusamo before ending in Salla in Lapp .

Karjalan Kirkkotie

The Karjalan kirkkotie route ("Karelian Church Road ") is an Orthodox cultural and pilgrimage route in North Karelia. It leads from Heinävesi to Hattuvaara in the municipality of Ilomantsi . The Uusi Valamo monastery as well as numerous Orthodox churches, chapels and cemeteries are located on Karelian Church Street .
