Viaducto de Vadollano

The Viaducto de Vadollano is a three-part railway viaduct with two supporting pillars of the single-track railway line Ferrocarril Alcázar de San Juan - Seville . The structure in the municipality of Linares in the province of Jaén bridges the river valley of the Río Guarrizas .

history

The approximately 147 meter long pendulum pillar bridge with steel lattice elements is 5 meters wide and the highest point is 36 meters above the valley level. The construction work was started by the Compañía MZA in early 1885 and completed in late 1886.

The original lattice structure of the supporting pillars in half-timbered construction had to be renewed in the years 1918–1919. The structure has been part of the Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Españoles route network since 1941 and is also managed by RENFE. Structural reinforcements were installed and renovation work carried out between 1950 and 1956. The original metal pillars were two rectangular stone replaced -Stützpfeiler.
