Vibrating top
A vibration gyroscope ( English Vibrating structure gyroscope , VSG) is a sensor for measuring the rate of rotation and thus the rotation angle of a body in space. The drift of inexpensive sensors amounts to less than 10 ° / h .
A vibration gyro consists of a system that can oscillate, for example an oscillating crystal . If the quartz is rotated perpendicular to the direction of deflection with the angular velocity , the Coriolis force acts
perpendicular to the oscillating system. The distortion can be detected by a piezoelectric pickup .
As with fiber or laser gyroscopes , the word gyro is taken from the gyro instrument , which was traditionally used to determine orientation in space.
The oscillating bulbs in insects work on the principle of a vibrating top.
