Vicente Palmaroli González (born September 5, 1834 in Zarzalejo , Madrid , † January 25, 1896 in Madrid ) was a Spanish history painter . He was director of the Academia de España in Rome and the Museo del Prado (1894-1896).

Life

Palmaroli was the son of the Italian lithographer Gaetano Palmaroli (1800-1853) who had emigrated to Spain . He studied from 1848 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando under Federico Madrazo and completed his training from 1857 on a study trip to Italy with a stay in Rome . He was accompanied by Eduardo Rosales and Luis Álvarez Catalá. In 1862 he exhibited two of his works that had been created in Italy at a national exhibition. He took part with the Spanish delegation at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1867 , where he was awarded a medal.
