Vicente de Herrera y Rivero

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vicente de Herrera y Rivero (baptized November 7, 1743 in Santander , Spain ; † February 27, 1794 in Madrid , Spain), Margrave (Spanish: marqués) of Herrera , was a Spanish lawyer who temporarily served as viceroy of New Spain.

Herrera must have had a legal education, because 1784 officiated as regent of the Real Audiencia of Mexico . In this function he took over the office of Viceroy of New Spain on an interim basis in November 1784, when Viceroy Matías de Gálvez y Gallardo died.

In June 1785 he handed over the official business to the successor appointed by the court Bernardo de Gálvez y Madrid , son of Matías de Gálvez, who had to hand over the office of governor of Cuba before he could go to Mexico.

Herrera was elevated to the status of margrave by King Charles IV in 1790 . Since this title first expired in 1794, it can be assumed that he had no direct descendants when he died in Madrid in 1794.
