Vichadero is a city in northern Uruguay .
geography
It is located in the area of the Departamento Rivera in its sector 8 at the foot of the 282 meter high Cerro de Vichadero , 132 km southeast of the departmental capital of the same name . You are connected to this via Ruta 27 . The distance to the next largest city Melo in the southeast is 100 km. The Arroyo Caraguatá flows a few kilometers west of Vichadero . In the area of Cerro Vichadero, as well as in Zapucay, some distance to the west, manganese ore deposits are present.
history
As early as 1832, the place appeared on some maps under the name Bichadero. The origin of the name is not clear. It is derived either from the Spanish term bicho (“cattle”, “vermin”), or from the verb vichear (“peeking”, “looking out”). The natives are said to have watched the arrival of the Spaniards from the local mountain. Vichadero was built on land that belonged to Manuel Oribe's father-in-law Felipe Contucci at the beginning of the 19th century . In 1950 Vichaderos was classified as " Pueblo ", and in 1984 the place was then classified as a " Villa ".
Population and Demographic Development
The 2011 census counted 3,698, 1,798 males and 1,900 females. In 1996 the population was only 3,343.

Infrastructure
The city has a public health center that is respected beyond the city limits and a not-for-profit Centro Médico . There are also two primary schools in Vichadero, the Escuela Número 24 and the Colegio Habilitado Número 3 Santa Rita , as well as the secondary school Liceo Vichadero . There are also several restaurants, a hotel and two ANCAP gas stations. It also has its own theater and stadium.
traffic
In technical terms, the city traffic in addition to the already mentioned road links via which Ruta 27 by the leading also through the urban area Ruta 6 and lying near the airport Vichadero connected to the transport network. The latter was regularly served by Pluna aircraft from 1955 to 1983 .
economy
Cattle are raised on the fertile meadows of Vichadero. In addition, farms that grow rice and soy have recently set up shop.
