Vice-county of Châtellerault

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The vice-county of Châtellerault with the main town of Châtellerault existed since the middle of the 10th century . The first vice count ( vicecomes ) was Aldradus, who also gave the place its name: Castrum Adraldi . When the ruling family died out at the end of the 13th century , the vice-county passed to the Harcourt family in the person of Jean II. Le Preux , Marshal of France , † 1302 .

The best-known vice count of Châtellerault is Aimery I, † before 1144, his wife - Felipia of Toulouse, also known under the name (1109 first mention) Dangerose, (since 1119 also) Maubergeonne - the mistress of William IX. , Duke of Aquitaine and Count of Poitou . Dangeose / Maubergeonnes and Aimery's daughter Aénor (Eleonore) married the later Duke Wilhelm X. , the legitimate son of William IX, and became the mother of Eleonore of Aquitaine .
