Charles de Valois-Angoulême, duc d'Orléans ( German  Karl von Angoulême ; born January 22, 1522 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye , † September 9, 1545 in the Abbey of Forestmoutier ) was the youngest son of King Francis I of France and Claude de France .

In 1522 he was made Duke of Angoulême , then in 1540 Duke of Orléans and Châtellerault , Count of Clermont-en-Beauvaisis and La Marche , Peer of France . Charles of Angoulême became governor of the provinces of Champagne and Brie and finally, in 1543, Duke of Bourbon .

He died at the age of 23, unmarried and childless. He was buried in the Saint-Denis basilica . The Île d'Orléans and the former city of Charlesbourg-Royal in Québec are named after him.
