Jean Victor Augagneur (born May 16, 1855 in Lyon , † April 23, 1931 in Le Vésinet , Yvelines department ) was a French doctor and politician .

biography

Augagneur was initially active in local politics and was finally mayor of Lyon from 1900 to 1905 . In 1906 he was appointed Governor General of the Colony of Madagascar and held this post until 1909.

In 1911 he was appointed by Prime Minister Joseph Caillaux as Minister for Public Works, Post and Telegraphy in his government, which was in office until 1912.

From June 13 to August 3, 1914, he was Minister for Public Education and Fine Arts in Prime Minister René Viviani's cabinet . After a cabinet reshuffle, he was then Minister of the Navy in Viviani's government until August 29, 1915. Albert Sarraut was his successor as Minister of Education .

In 1920 he became governor general of the colony of French Equatorial Africa and held this post until 1923.
