Víctor Ernesto Farías Soto (born May 4, 1940 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean Germanist and journalist.

Life

Farías studied philosophy and German at the Catholic university in his hometown and went to Freiburg in the 1960s. He completed his doctorate on the philosophy of Franz Brentano on November 30, 1967 with G. Schmidt and Bernhard Lakebrink at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and then returned to his homeland. When Augusto Pinochet came to power at the head of the military junta on September 11, 1973 , Farías left Chile and taught at the Latin America Institute of the Free University of Berlin from 1974 .

His books on the philosopher Martin Heidegger as well as on the Socialist Party of Chile and the socialist politician Salvador Allende , in each of which he raises allegations of Nazi sympathy, among other things , received great media attention . He received wide approval from some media for this, but some other authors have accused his books of one-sided, tendentious argumentation and deliberate falsification.
