Victor Gabriel Gilbert
Victor Gabriel Gilbert (born February 13, 1847 in Paris , † July 21, 1933 there ) was a French genre painter.
From 1860 Victor Gabriel Gilbert was an apprentice to a decorative painter. He then became a student of Émile Adan , Jules Gabriel Levasseur and Charles Busson .
He made his debut in 1873 at the Salon des artistes français. He won a second class medal at the Salon of 1880 and a silver medal at the Paris Exposition of 1889 . He also exhibited his pictures in the Munich Glass Palace .
In 1914 he became a member of the Société des Artistes Français . He lived in Paris all his life. He mainly painted genre scenes from everyday life, from the Parisian streets, markets and pubs. He also painted portraits and pictures of children. He also provided illustrations for the Paris-Noël almanac, which appears each December.
Victor Gabriel Gilbert was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1897 and received the Léon Bonnat Prize in 1926 .
