Victor Axel Hackman (born April 27, 1866 in Vyborg , † November 26, 1941 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish geologist .

Victor Hackman was born on April 27, 1866 in Vyborg, in what is now Russia, to Woldermar Hackman and Emilie Krohn. He was a brother of the archaeologist Alfred Hackman and the folklorist Oskar Hackman .

Life

After graduating with a bachelor's degree in philosophy, he defended his doctoral thesis in 1894. Then he went on an excursion to the Kola peninsula with the Finnish geologist Wilhelm Ramsay . He devoted himself to the investigation of nepheline syenites . He published the results of the investigation with the title "Petrographic description of the nepheline syenites from Umptek and some rocks accompanying it" in 1894.

Then he was 1899-1912 lecturer in mineralogy and petrography at the University of Helsinki , and from 1902 in the geological commission. Between 1924 and 1935 he also worked as a geologist in the service of the Finnish state and in 1936 received the title of Professor of Geology. He devoted himself mainly to the petrography and Quaternary geology of Finland and published some geological map sheets.

Hackman died in Helsinki on November 26, 1941
