Alfred Hackman (archaeologist)

Alfred "Alf" Leopold Fredrik Hackman ( October 14, 1864 in Vyborg , Grand Duchy of Finland , Russian Empire - January 16, 1942 Helsingfors , Finland) was a Finnish archaeologist , photographer and professor.

Life

Alfred Hackman was born the son of Woldemar Hackman (1831–1871) and his wife Emilie Hackman, née Krohn (1841–1922). He was a brother of the geologist Victor Hackman and the folklorist Oskar Hackman .

Hackman studied archeology at the University of Helsinki and received his PhD in 1905. From 1919 to 1932 he was the curator of the Prehistoric Department of the National Museum of Finland . In 1925 he became a professor. From the late 1890s to the 1930s, he took photos during archaeological excavations. From 1901 to 1904 he was a member of the Amateur Photography Club (AFK) in Helsinki.
