Victor Zaslavsky
Victor Lvovich Zaslavsky ( Russian Виктор Львович Заславский . Transcribed Viktor Lvovich Saslavsky ; born September 26, 1937 in Leningrad , Soviet Union ; † November 26, 2009 in Rome ) was a Soviet sociologist and an emigrant since 1975.
Life
Victor Zaslavsky initially worked as an engineer for ten years before going to Leningrad University as a lecturer in sociology . In 1975 he had to leave the Soviet Union for political reasons . He became a Canadian citizen. In his academic career he was visiting professor at various universities: Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's , Canada , University of Florence , University of Venice , University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University , and he became professor at the private Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali in Rome. Zaslavsky was co-editor of the quarterly TELOS .
In 2009 he received the Hannah Arendt Prize from the Heinrich Böll Foundation for his study of the Katyn massacre .
Zaslavsky was married to the Italian historian Elena Aga Rossi (* 1940), with whom he received the Premio Acqui Storia in 1998 .
