Vidar Benjaminsen
Vidar Benjaminsen (born August 18, 1962 ) is a former Norwegian ski orienteer .
Benjaminsen won 15 medals at World Ski Orienteering Championships between 1984 and 1996, including four gold medals. He won his first gold medal in Batak in 1986 with Sigurd Dæhli , Lars Lystad and Audun Knutsen in the relay. In 1988 he was runner- up behind Hannu Koponen from Finland on the newly introduced short distance, in 1990 he was behind his compatriot Anssi Juutilainen on this route . In the long distance he won the bronze medal behind the Swedes Anders Björkman and Stig Mattsson . In 1992 in France he won both the short and the long distance ahead of the Finn Vesa Mäkipää . In 1994 in the Non Valley he was third on the short distance behind the simultaneous winners Nicolò Corradini from Italy and Iwan Kusmin from Russia. With Kjetil Ulven , Lars Lystad and Harald Svergia , Benjaminsen won his fourth gold medal in the season. In his last world title fights in 1996 in Lillehammer he was behind the Swede Björn Lans and Nicolò Corradini in both individual competitions again vice world champion and won the bronze medal with the relay.
At Nordic Championships, Vidar Benjaminsen won four gold medals in individual competitions between 1988 and 1995 and three other titles with the Norwegian relay. He was the first winner of the overall men's World Cup in 1989 and won the World Cup again in 1995.
He is married to the Finnish orienteer Anne Benjaminsen (née Veijalainen ).
