Games Aktuell (GA for short; originally Video Games Aktuell ) is a German multiplatform game magazine from 2003, published by Computec Media in Fürth . Games Aktuell appears monthly, usually on the penultimate Wednesday of the previous month, and has around 100 pages per issue. When it was published by CyPress Verlag, it had between 78 and 142 pages, depending on the issue.
history
From the first edition 6–7 / 2003 to the 12/2005 edition, the magazine was called Video Games Aktuell and was published by CyPress . Since the 07/2007 edition, the DVD no longer contains a full version of a computer game. The publisher justifies this with stagnating sales and the declining number of advertisers. On August 22, 2007, Computec Media announced that it wanted to take over play³ , Games Aktuell “and various other assets” from CyPress at the earliest possible date. The Federal Cartel Office agreed, and so Computec took over Games Aktuell, play³ and its online portal Cynamite.de on October 1, 2007. The first edition of Games-Aktuell under the new flag appeared on October 24th. Thomas Szedlak remained editor-in-chief.

Previous formats discontinued
- Videogames Current, bimonthly: Former normal edition without DVD. The booklet had 78 pages and did not contain an insert; it was a pure print magazine.
- Videogames Current, monthly: Former normal edition with CD; was discontinued due to the outdated technology. There was a full version on the CD. The volume increased to 124 pages.
- Games Aktuell, monthly: Former normal edition with DVD. This edition was discontinued with the 02/08 edition and replaced by the more modern DVD version.
- Games Aktuell Premium, quarterly: This special edition contained the normal edition with DVD, poster, bunch of keys and, depending on the edition, a few more little things.
- Games Aktuell DVD version, monthly (normal edition with HD double DVD). In addition to various videos (tests, previews and trailers) in HD quality, the DVD also contained PC game demos and patches.

The magazine reports on all currently available computer and video game platforms. This currently affects the Windows , PlayStation 4 , Xbox One , Nintendo Switch and PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS systems, previously also for the PlayStation 2 , PlayStation 3 , Xbox 360 , Nintendo Wii , Wii U , PlayStation Portable , Nintendo DS . - Current news, including scene news from the developer area
- Previews ( previews ) to games that are still in development.
- Tests ( reviews or reviews ) of current games (recently published or about to be released ). (Also partly on DVD)
- Current hardware ideas (console and computer accessories)
- Tips, cheats and solutions (in the sense of a computer game, e.g. step-by-step instructions ( walkthrough ) for playing through a current game.)
- A service section with letters to the editor and a glossary of technical terms
- Surveys on current topics

The data carrier enclosed with the booklet no longer contained full versions from the 07/2007 edition . The exception to this is the 07/2008 edition. To this end, demos and patches for PC games and videos for all platforms have been expanded.
Scoring system
A simple scoring system is used for the game tests. In addition to the individual ratings for:
- graphic
- Sound
- control
- Multiplayer
an overall rating is given in the form of stars (1-6 stars), a literal description of the rating ( poor to very good ) and a percentage of the fun of the game. The gaming fun rating is not an average rating of the individual ratings.
Awards
Games Aktuell awards an award for games with a rating of 85 percent or more.
Circulation statistics
In the fourth quarter of 2014, the average monthly circulation according to IVW was 20,578 copies. That is 16.60 percent (4,095) fewer issues than in the same quarter of the previous year. The number of subscribers fell within a year by 7.08 percent to 2,521 subscribers. Currently, 12.25 percent of readers subscribe to the magazine.
The magazine was removed from the IVW count in 2017. The publisher stated a circulation of 18,300 copies in 2017, which was reduced to 14,100 copies in 2020.

The online offer of Games Aktuell is gamesaktuell.de (formerly cynamite.de). On this website, as on the other websites of the publishing house, you will find daily news about current events on the PC and console games market as well as a forum for everything to do with video games.
Podcast
Every week, on Fridays, the editorial team publishes a podcast in which they cover the latest games.
