Viera Němejcová-Pavúková

Viera Němejcová-Pavúková (born March 9, 1937 in Bratislava , † April 7, 1997 ) was a Slovak prehistoric .

Viera Němejcová-Pavúková studied archeology at the Comenius University in Bratislava . After graduation, she initially worked for a short time at the city museum, but in 1961 she moved to the Slovak Academy of Sciences , at that time the center of scientific research in the Slovak part of Czechoslovakia. As an employee of the academy, she led several important excavations at sites of the Baden and Lengyel cultures . The excavations were the starting point for Němejcová-Pavúková's most important work on the Slovak Eneolithic . In 1992 he was appointed to a professorship at Comenius University. Five years later, she died unexpectedly after a brief, serious illness.

Němejcová-Pavúková was considered an outstanding expert on the Slovak Neolithic and Eneolithic and, thanks to her international network, also beyond the borders of Slovakia.
