The torture on the outskirts of the village

The so-called Viersäulenmarter is an important wayside shrine in the Sommerach district . It is located on the KT 57 road in the direction of Volkach .

history

The wayside shrine was first described in 1700. This year is noted above the crucifixion scene in the spandrels . Shortly after the end of the Second World War , on February 27, 1947, the Marter was damaged by an American army vehicle.

The community commissioned the sculptor Georg Schneider from Würzburg to create a true-to-original copy. This also received the inscription: “We have set up the four-pillar torture again in thanks for the protection of the village in World War II, in memory of the fallen and missing, as a request of the homeless, as a confession of St. Belief. Community of Sommerach 1948 ”. The wayside shrine is classified by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation under monument number D-6-75-169-66.

description

On a base with the inscription “ IHS ” stand four pillars. They give the wayside shrine its name and are richly decorated with grape and fruit ornaments . Above it rises a four-page image topped with a patriarchal cross. The scenes shown are framed by wavy pilasters and show the story of the Passion.

Under each scene there is a heart-shaped cartouche with inscriptions. They contain prayers and the church's thanksgiving mentioned above. The engravings are flanked by praying people who represent the donors. Under the crucifixion scene there is also a Christ monogram on a scroll.

The inscription on this side reads: “O Lord Jesus as you said • Father forgive them then they do not know what they are doing such a thing give me in my heart that I forgive all those who offend me for the sake of your love. Johannes Pardel Ulric Elisabetha Ulricin ”.
