The Vietor Rock is a cliff rock in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located in front of Nikopol Point on the south coast of the Byers Peninsula in the far west of Livingston Island , with which it is connected via a low isthmus .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named him in 1958 after Alexander Orr Vietor (1913-1981), curator for maps at Yale University , who had discovered the logbooks of the seal- catching ships Herselia and Huron from 1819 to 1820 and from 1820 to 1821, respectively operated in the waters around the South Orkney Islands.
