Vijay Mehra

Vijay Laxman Mehra (born March 12, 1938 in Amritsar , Punjab , † August 25, 2006 in Delhi ) was an Indian cricketer .

Mehra played in eight Tests (highest international level in the game of cricket) from 1955 to 1964.

Mehra made his debut for India from December 2 to 7, 1955 in the Test in Mumbai against New Zealand and, at 17 years and 265 days, was the youngest player to play in the Indian national team until 1982.

After his international cricket career, Mehra became a bank manager for the State Bank of India . He also became a National Cricket Selector and opened three cricket academies to promote young talent.

Mehra was married to a professor at Shree Ram College . The two had a daughter and a son Ajay, who was also a cricketer.
