Vijlen ( Limburgish Many ) is a village with around 1,285 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2018) in South Limburg and belongs to the municipality of Vaals . Vijlen is about 200 meters above NAP . Vijlen uses the slogan Bergdorf der Netherlands or Bergdorpje van Nederland to attract tourists, but there are some even higher settlements in the Netherlands .
location
The village is located between Epen and Vaals on the Mergelland route , with a view of the valley of the river Göhl ( Geul in Dutch ). For hikers, the ANWB-Mergelland-Route is a popular route through the Limburg hills with a total length of 110 kilometers for cars and around 125 kilometers for bicycles.
Due to its high hill location in the extreme south-east, Vijlen is the area with mostly the first snow of the Dutch winter and also with the largest amounts of snow in the year.
The hamlets of Camerig , Harles , Rott , Melleschet and Cottessen belong to the village of Vijlen . Old half-timbered houses can also be seen here. There are many campsites and holiday apartments in this otherwise untypical landscape for the Netherlands.
