Vilhelm Johannesen

Vilhelm Johannesen (born August 4, 1942 in Klaksvík , Faroe Islands ) is a former Faroese postal worker, editor and politician of Javnaðarflokkurin . He was a member of parliament in Løgting and a minister in several Faroese state governments .

Profession and Politics

Vilhelm Johannesen worked for many years as a training manager at Postverk Føroya and has written various articles about the postal system in the Faroe Islands and published the book Postur í Føroyum 1870-2000 on the history of the Faroese postal system in 2001 .

He began his political career as an editor at the social democratic party newspaper Sosialurin , where he was employed from 1972 to 1979. From 1975 to 1984 he was a member of the Klaksvík Municipal Council and from 1991 to 1993 he chaired the administrative board of the local hospital.

In 1980 he was elected for the first time as a member of the Javnaðarflokkurin in the Faroese Parliament (Løgting) and was able to hold the seat until 2008.

Vilhelm Johannesen also sat for a period of ten years as a minister in several state governments of Prime Minister Atli Dam . So from 1979 to 1981 as Minister for Health, Social Affairs, Industry and Justice in the state government Atli Dam III , from 1985 to 1988 as Minister for Industry and Justice in the state government Atli Dam IV and from 1988 to 1989 as Minister for Industry and Labor in the state government Atli Dam V .

Vilhelm Johannesen's parents are Estrid and Bethuel Johannesen from Klaksvík . He is married to Johild (née Johannesen) from Klaksvík. Vilhelm Johannesen is the father of the lawyer, politician and current Faroese Prime Minister Aksel V. Johannesen .
