Villa Ada, Rome.

Villa Ada is the second largest public park in Rome . The area is 1.8 km². The Villa Ada is located in the north of the city on Via Salaria outside the Aurelian walls . Not far to the north is the Rome-Urbe airport .

The park is divided into a public area and a private area. The private area belongs to the Egyptian embassy and is controlled by its staff. The city of Rome controls the public area with foot patrols by police or carabinieri . Concerts take place every summer in the public area, bicycles can be borrowed, rowing boats and ponies can be rented. There are numerous alien tree species in this park, such as metasequoien .

The Monte Antenne and the ancient settlement Antemnae are located on the site . Part of the Priscilla Catacombs is located under the park area. In 1872 the area was acquired by Viktor Emanuel II and designed by the German art gardener Emil Richter based on the example of the English landscape gardens. The park was later sold by Viktor Emanuel's son Umberto I to the administrator of the royal estates, Count Tellfner, who named the property after his wife Ada. In 1904 Victor Emanuel III acquired the villa again for the House of Savoy , which still owns part of the area after lengthy legal disputes after the abolition of the monarchy, while the other part became public property in 1957. As Villa Savoia the property became the royal residence where Benito Mussolini was arrested on July 25, 1943.

The Egyptian embassy at the Quirinal is located in the Villa Savoia today .
