description

"Villa Bärenfett"

Karl May's widow and estate administrator Klara had a log house built for Patty Frank in the garden behind her house in 1926 . According to a design by the architect Max Czopka , winner of the competition against the local architect Otto Rometsch , a single-storey building was erected on a sandstone base with a gable roof and a dwelling . Patty Frank received lifelong right to live in this house, in return the Indian collector donated his collection to the Karl May Museum and became the museum's curator .

In 1927/1928 an extension was made in the same style to accommodate the Karl May Museum, which opened on December 1, 1928. Another extension, necessary because of the large number of visitors, was carried out by Max Czopka in 1935/1936. Patty Frank lived in the house until his death in 1959, and his wife lived for two more years.

Since 1985 the former residence of Karl May, the villa "Shatterhand" , has been used for exhibition purposes by the museum, especially on Karl May himself.
