The Villa Bennewitz is a former upper-class residential building in Magdeburg , Alte Neustadt district , Kaiser-Otto Ring 3. The neo-baroque villa was built in 1898 and is a listed building .

Building history

The villa was built for the privateer Hans Bennewitz on a green area of ​​the former Magdeburg fortification belt. The construction plans came from the Magdeburg architect Alf E. Hurum , who also designed the Villa Lütge in the Magdeburg district of Diesdorf . The establishment of the Villa Bennewitz is related to the creation of a residential area in the outskirts of the former Königin-Luise-Garten (now Geschwister-Scholl-Park ). To promote the development, the city had offered land at low prices subject to certain conditions. After falling into disrepair during the GDR era, the building was renovated in 1994 and 1995 to make it suitable for historical monuments . After that it was used for both commercial and residential purposes.

Building description

The villa is surrounded by a 5000 m² park with representative gardens. The building itself takes up an area of ​​around 500 m². The building, which is covered with a flat roof, has four floors: basement , ground floor, first floor and attic. The room height varies between 4.40 m and 4 m. The overall structure is an asymmetrical complex with two side wings of different heights and widths. The entrance portal emerges between the side wings, which is designed as a balcony decorated with columns on the upper floor . The street facade is adorned with lush floral stucco decorations. The garden facade is dominated by a protruding medium risalit with an attic closure . The attic is supported by two columns made of black granite.
