location

Villa Carminia is located on the Río San Jorge . The neighboring town of Torno Rojo , which belongs to Puerto Libertador, is about 20 minutes away by river.

Infrastructure

In 2012 Villa Carminia had a power supply but no water supply system. It was also the seat of a Cabildo Indígena Embera .

history

Originally 350 people lived in Villa Carminia. On July 5, 2010, the residents left the place collectively. The reason was the rampant violence caused by the demobilized paramilitary groups that arose from bandas criminales (Spanish for “criminal gangs”; short: Bacrim ). Most of the residents fled to the town of Montelíbano , where they found accommodation on the premises of the new slaughterhouse.

At the beginning of 2012, 38 families returned to the village under the leadership of the government agencies Departamento para la Prosperidad Social (Department of Social Welfare) and Unidad Administrativa Especial para la Consolidación Territorial (Special Administrative Unit for Territorial Consolidation ; UAECT). Care for the returnees was organized from Torno Rojo. At this time, illegal groups controlled the Río San Jorge and thus the ferry belonging to the village .
