history
The villa was designed by architect Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel for himself and his family from 1877 to 1878 and is one of the oldest villas in the city. Möckel was the architect of the Johannes and Erlöserkirche in Dresden and one of the main exponents of Neo-Gothic . The villa remained undamaged when Dresden was bombed and was later renovated.
From 1948 to 1951 the house was the seat of the State Administrative Court of Saxony .
Building description
The two-storey building was built in the neo-Gothic style. The facade made of yellow clinker bricks is structured with sandstone elements. The high hipped roof is "by dormers and spiers loosened".
The Villa Möckel is located on the corner of Liebigstrasse, from which two short wings extend. The corner view of the house shows the main facade. On the ground floor a small flight of stairs leads to a semicircular terrace. On the second floor of the main facade there is a balcony flanked by sandstone figures. Two more sandstone figures are in corner niches of the building. These represent the architect Möckel and his wife in old German costume . The main view of the building ends with a turret. The main entrance of the house is on the right wing, is accessed via a staircase and is richly decorated. There is another balcony above the entrance.
The interior of the building is decorated with a mural showing the Möckel family and the floor plan of the Johanneskirche.
