The Villa Sunder-Plaßmann is a listed city villa in the Erphoviertel in the Westphalian city of Münster . It was built in 1909 by the cathedral builder and architect Wilhelm Sunder-Plaßmann .

location

The villa is located on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring in the Erpohviertel. The Villa ten Hompel is located directly opposite on the western side of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring .

history

The Ringstrasse in Münster was designed in 1903 as an avenue with representative buildings. In 1909, the cathedral master builder Wilhelm Sunder-Plaßmann built the first of the planned villas on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring with his villa.

In air raids on Münster in the Second World War , the villa was partly destroyed. The roof was badly damaged and later had to be completely replaced.

The villa remained in the possession of the Sunder-Plaßmann family until 1985. After the building was sold, it was initially used as a private clinic and residential building.

In 2010 the villa was dismantled, carried out and looked after by descendants of the architect Sunder-Plaßmann.

In 2016 the villa was sold again and is to be used exclusively as a residential building.

architecture

The architecture of the city villa is based on the buildings by Johann Conrad Schlaun .

The building has a rectangular floor plan with rounded corners. The two-storey brick building is structured by pilaster strips and frames for the windows made of Ibbenbüren sandstone . Overall, the structure of the facade is determined by an idiosyncratic eclecticism . To the north, the building has a staircase projection with Art Nouveau windows . The side wall sections of the main facade facing Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring are not constructed symmetrically. The most striking feature of the building is a gabled central projectile flanked by Ionic pilasters with an arbor on the main facade. The slate-covered mansard roof , which was destroyed in the Second World War, was replaced by a copper roof. The enclosure was created in the Art Nouveau style.
