Villa suburbana (Unterbaar)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Villa suburbana on the district of Unterbaar , in the municipality of Baar in Swabia Aichach-Friedberg in Bavaria , was in 1988 when Land surveyor works discovered. The suburban villa is located 900 meters northwest of the Church of St. Margareta and is a protected ground monument .

An emergency rescue showed that one of the three former stone buildings had already been completely removed by the bulldozer and the other two were severely affected. Pits, beam traces and smelter clay indicated farm buildings in the area.

The rooms of the main building were arranged along a corridor 46 meters long and 3.5 meters wide. The corridor ended in the northeast in a severed by a transverse wall apse , of eight meters was long. The living quarters of the villa were heated by two boiler rooms (praefurniae). The main room was decorated with painted wall plaster and a floor mosaic .

The documented findings were presumably only a fraction of the building fabric that had previously existed, with agricultural buildings such as barns and stables hardly being tangible.
