Vingroup is a conglomerate with headquarters in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi . The company's chairman is Phạm Nhật Vượng, the first billionaire and richest man in Vietnam.

Company history

As a forerunner of today's Vingroup, Phạm Nhật Vượng founded the food company Technocom in the Ukraine in 1993 , which specialized in the production of finished products, especially noodles. With the Mivina brand, the company was extremely successful and became one of the largest companies in Ukraine. The group has been doing business in Vietnam since 2000, with the real estate sector initially being the focus of business activity. The relocation of the business to Vietnam is justified with the wish of the company founder to contribute to the development of his home country. The group, which has been operating under the name Vingroup since 2007, soon expanded and became one of the leading companies in Vietnam in the retail and health sectors. Today Vingroup subsidiaries are leaders in many industries in Vietnam.

In 2009 Nestlé bought Technocom for $ 150 million.

In 2013, the US investment fund Warburg Pincus invested US $ 200 million in the company so that it could expand its operations in the areas of hospitals, schools, commercial establishments and tourism.

In the 2015 annual report, Vingroup presented a five-year plan to continue the company's rapid growth. In particular, the Vinmart and Vinpearls subsidiaries are expected to grow strongly according to the plan. In addition, the proposed plan proclaimed a year of efficiency and quality . As part of this project, changes in the areas of corporate management and human resources were initiated.

The group's project to set up a car production facility in Vietnam caused a stir. Construction of a factory in Haiphong began in 2017 and has now been completed.

In April 2018, the Vincom Landmark 81 skyscraper was completed, which is the tallest building in Southeast Asia with a height of 461.5 m . It is located in Vinhomes Central Park, a district created by Vincity in the east of Ho Chi Minh City .

In July 2018, Vingroup signed a contract with the Spanish company Mundo Reader SL, which states that Vingroup's subsidiary VSmart may in future produce and sell BQ branded devices .

In August 2018, the Vingroup announced the establishment of a technology hub in Hanoi. The technology center, modeled on Silicon Valley , will focus on artificial intelligence in particular.

Shareholders

The Vingroup is one of the few completely non-state companies in Vietnam and listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. Founder Phạm Nhật Vượng holds 30% of the shares; foreign investors have a total of 15% of the shares in the conglomerate. The value of the shares developed extremely positively with an annual growth of up to 75%.

Vinhomes is active in the premium segment of the real estate market, with mainly real estate in central locations in large cities. Vinhomes has been listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange since May 2015.

Hotels and resorts belong to the group. The development of tourism is one of the goals of the founder Phạm Nhật Vượng.

Vinpearl operates numerous hotels and resorts along the Vietnamese coast. Vinpearl also includes theme parks, golf courses, restaurants and a spa. The aim of Vinpearl is to make Vietnam attractive to tourists and to establish a 5-star standard in Vietnam.

Vinmec is also working on a platform for exchanging data between hospitals. All profits of the subsidiary Vinmec are used for charitable purposes.

Vinfast

Vinfast has set itself the goal of building a Vietnamese car. At the Haiphong location, a 235 hectare factory site was built within 15 months, where the first Vietnamese cars are to be completed in mid-2019. The site has the capacity to produce 500,000 cars a year. For the time being, 250,000 Vietnamese cars will roll off the assembly line each year. Vượng invested an estimated US $ 3 billion in the Vinfast project and recruited specialists from Italy, the USA and Germany.
