Fotache, who has played for the Romanian club Dunărea Călărași since the summer of 2017 and played for the Romanian national team, plays on the backcourt position on the left .
In Romania, Fotache was most recently under contract with HC Minaur Baia Mare and played with this club in the EHF Champions League in the 2015/16 season . In December 2015, the TVB 1898 Stuttgart signed him up. After the 2016/17 season , Fotache moved back to Romania to Dunărea Călărași.
Viorel Fotache has played an international match for the Romanian national team and took part in qualifying for the 2018 European Championship .
