Virgil Gonsalves

Virgil Gonsalves (* 5. September 1931 in Monterey , California ; † 20th October 2008 ) was an American jazz - saxophonist .

Before Gonsalves released his first solo album, he first played with musicians such as Alvino Rey , Jack Fina and Tex Beneke . 1954 came his solo debut Virgil Gonsalves (in the form of two 10-inch LPs with Nocturne Records ) on the market, on the Gonsalves with Bob Enevoldsen , Herbie Harper , Budd Wise , Lou Levy , Jimmy Rowles , Harry Babasin and Larry Bunker was playing. In 1955 the album Jazz San Francisco Style followed ; a little later he founded the Virgil Gonsalves Big Band Plus Six, which in 1959 released their only album Jazz at Monterey . In 1968 Gonsalves was briefly a member of The Electric Flag . In the field of jazz, he was involved in seven recording sessions between 1954 and 1959, according to Tom Lord .
